Carolyn Anderson is a Managing Partner at Zimmerman Reed and leads the firm’s Investor Protection, Antitrust and ERISA practice groups.

Carolyn has successfully represented small investors and institutional clients in individual and nationwide securities fraud actions and minority shareholders in actions related to mergers and acquisitions.  She has served in a leadership role in obtaining numerous significant awards in both individual actions and multi-state actions.

In her securities work, Carolyn successfully represented Midwest farmers/shareholders who challenged an ethanol plant’s merger with Archer Daniels Midland; she was appointed Class Counsel in that matter.  The case was successfully resolved weeks prior to trial.  Carolyn also led a legal team in a case brought by investors against American Express Financial Advisors, challenging that company’s practices and breaches of fiduciary duty with its investing customers.  The case was brought under the Investment Advisor Act and resulted in a $100 million settlement. Carolyn has also recently represented clients in several ERISA actions including: Merrill Lynch, AIG, and Lehman Brothers.

Carolyn currently represents one hundred charitable and not-for-profit organizations related to their losses from the $3.6 billion Petters Ponzi scheme.  She was appointed by the federal judge as Assistant Liquidating Trustee under the supervision of the Court and the Liquidating Trustee for assets being distributed to some of those investors.  She has also been appointed Lead Counsel in a nationwide, certified class in a securities fraud lawsuit, representing a public pension fund. She currently serves as Lead Counsel on behalf of investors in Morgan Keegan mutual funds in a case proceeding in the Western District of Tennessee.  Carolyn is also working with a coalition of four Attorneys General, representing the states and their citizens in an antitrust action against manufacturers of LCD displays.  In 2010, several of the LCD producers agreed to plead guilty to charges brought by the Department of Justice and pay fines (totaling more than $890 million) for participating in a price-fixing conspiracy.

Carolyn maintains strong ties with the National Association of Attorneys General, with individual state Attorneys General, state pension fund officers and other institutional investors.

Carolyn has also been appointed lead counsel in many cases involving foodborne illnesses, including Sara Lee, Malt-O-Meal, Sizzler, Horse & Hunt Club, Hardees, Conagra and Senor Felix, representing individuals and classes to obtain compensation for the cost and consequences of those illnesses and to demand improved food safety programs and public health reporting.

Carolyn is a frequent lecturer at colleges and law schools, and has served as Legal Education faculty member on the topics of complex litigation, legal ethics, securities law and other topics.
