Background:

 

Yaz®, Yasmine®, and Ocella are popular birth control pills. Additionally, women have also been prescribed these drugs for the treatment of emotional and physical symptoms of PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder) and moderate acne. Yaz and Yasmine are made by Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Ocella is the generic version of Yaz. All three of these drugs were approved by the FDA.

Yaz®, Yasmine, and Ocella use the unique hormone DRSP (drospirenone) which may increase potassium levels in the body leading to severe complications.
