About Abilify and its Side Effects

Abilify is a widely-prescribed drug used to treat those suffering from schizophrenia, depression, or bipolar disorder and generates sales of more than $6 billion per year. It was approved by the FDA in 2002 and works by causing dopamine levels to increase, a neurotransmitter which stimulates pleasure centers in the brain.

Health Canada issued a safety alert in November 2015 to physicians and patients warning of an increased risk of pathological gambling for users taking Abilify.  On May 3rd, 2016, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning that compulsive or uncontrollable urges to gamble, excessive eating, excessive shopping, and hyper-sexual behavior have been reported with the use of Abilify. The alert further indicated that the urges were reported to have stopped when the medicine was discontinued or the dose was reduced.

Besides the financial hardships, compulsive gambling can wreak havoc on all other facets of your personal and professional life.  If you have experienced any of the compulsive side effects listed above while taking Abilify, contact our legal team for a free consultation.  We believe the drug maker failed to adequately warn all patients about the potential risks, and we are helping individuals and families.
