Not For Profit Hospital Litigation

Over 4,800 hospitals in the U.S. do not have to pay taxes to the Federal Government because they classify themselves as "not for profit" (NFP).

Unfortunately, many tax-exempt hospitals provide very little free or low cost care to uninsured, low-income people. In fact, many charge those patients more than those who are insured. Yet these hospitals still enjoy tax exempt status. NFP hospitals make a profit, while patients without insurance bear the cost.

Zimmerman Reed represents individuals who, among other things, seek to reclaim the medical expenses they may have been forced to pay though lacking the resources to do so. As part of this litigation Zimmerman Reed also hopes to end the practice of NFP hospitals wrongfully over-charging those in need.

Who may have a legal claim?
