Toxic Welding Rods

Background:

The toxic fumes generated during welding can pose a serious risk to the welder and others in the immediate area. Manganese fumes are released during the welding process and excessive exposure to these toxic fumes and can cause short-term and long-term health effects and other disorders such as Parkinson's Disease, Manganese poisoning or Manganism – a disorder that resembles Parkinson's Disease. Workers who are most at risk of inhaling toxic welding fumes include: welders, steelworkers, metal workers, ironworkers, pipe fitters and electrical workers.

What does all this mean and what can I do now?

Zimmerman Reed is representing welders and we have come to one conclusion: that the welding rod manufacturers and trade associations have a responsibility to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the workers they put in harm's way. If the allegations are true – or even half true – an injustice has been committed against some of our country's hardest working men and women. These are people who build ships, buildings, cars, and machinery. They are the ones who keep this country running. An honest living shouldn't have to cost them their lives.
