Excellus Bluecross Blueshield Data Breach

Excellus BlueCross BlueShield recently discovered a data breach potentially affecting the personal data of up to 10.5 million members. The data breach, first discovered by Excellus back in early August 2015, may also affect individuals who do business with them, putting at risk any financial account information or Social Security numbers provided. While Excellus BlueCross BlueShield just recently discovered the breach, it appears that the cyberattack started nearly two years ago, on December 23, 2013, exposing personal information for millions of Excellus members. The hackers may have gained accessed to your personal information, including:

  • Date of Birth
  • Financial Account and Claims Information
  • Mailing Address
  • Member Identification Number
  • Name
  • Social Security Number
  • Telephone Numbers

Excellus is now working with the FBI and cybersecurity firm Mandiant to further investigate the breach. They are also mailing notice letters to those believed to have been impacted.
