Solar Panel Owner Price Discrimination
We are investigating claims from solar panel homeowners who allege that the Salt River Project (SRP) electric company charges higher rates to rooftop solar customers. SRP serves as the electric utility for the Phoenix metropolitan area and we believe they are holding a price monopoly as the only supplier of electricity within the SRP territory. If you had to pay higher “distribution charges” and “demand charges,” contact us to learn if you qualify for a potential claim to recoup these charges. SRP Price Plan Investigation
Solar customers have noticed their bills running higher since SRP implemented its new pricing plan on December 8, 2014. These charges have allegedly amounted to a 56% per month price increase disguised as “distribution charges” and additionally had customers paying “demand charges” – adding up to hundreds of dollars in excessive charges each year.
When the energy demands exceed the panel’s output, customers find themselves at the mercy of SRP, the only supplier of auxiliary power. SRP allegedly penalizes solar panel owners with a distribution charge. SRP also imposes demand charges, which are alleged to be based on the 30-minute period of a homeowner’s highest usage at peak times in a month. These charges are not imposed on non-solar panel homeowners.
