Zimmerman Reed Announces New Managing Partners June Pineda Hoidal and Caleb Marker

Dec. 19, 2023 – Minneapolis, Minn. – Zimmerman Reed is pleased to announce that June Pineda Hoidal and Caleb Marker were voted in as Managing Partners to join Gordon Rudd. “June and Caleb are exceptional leaders and innovators within our firm,” Gordon said. “This new chapter in our leadership is especially exciting as our firm celebrates its fortieth anniversary. I look forward to leading the firm together as we continue to expand and build on our success.”

Based in the Minneapolis office, June Pineda Hoidal is recognized for her exceptional depth and analytical skills. As Chair of the firm’s Public Client Practice, she represents public entities as plaintiffs in complex litigation. In 2023, she represented the State of Minnesota in a three-week jury trial against tobacco companies for their deceptive marketing of e-cigarettes to youth, resulting in the largest per-capita state settlement nationwide. June also leads the firm’s cases involving financial fraud. Throughout her career, June has demonstrated a unique combination of tenacity on the legal front combined with an inclusive and supportive leadership style in managing legal teams. June explains, “It’s important to me that I enhance and protect the culture we have developed at ZR. It’s a culture where people first demand the best and most from themselves. We have tough cases, impressive opponents, and the odds aren’t always in our favor. But just as importantly, we pull together to reach goals, putting everyone on the team in a situation where they can succeed and grow. I am dedicated to the success of each person in our firm and eager to support their growth and celebrate their accomplishments.”

Caleb Marker, based in the Los Angeles office, has been instrumental in the opening and growth of that office since 2015, after having previously worked with Zimmerman Reed as co-counsel. Known for his innovation and creative legal approach, Caleb focuses his practice on consumer protection, employment, and privacy cases. In particular, he created the firm’s plaintiff arbitration practice and brought to trial the first merits arbitration in the United States against a ridesharing company, challenging its classification of a “gig economy” worker in 2016. Since then, he has represented clients in class actions and arbitrations against a variety of technology companies involving worker misclassification, equal pay for women, and privacy rights. With his broad experience in a variety of legal areas and focus on the technology field, Caleb has spearheaded various technological advancements at the firm. As Caleb commented, “Innovation is a fundamental mindset for me. Not only does it enhance the quality of our work, but it also elevates the ways we serve our clients. I am excited about helping guide the firm towards ongoing innovation so that our clients receive the best possible representation.”

June and Caleb represent the third generation of Managing Partners at the firm. Bucky Zimmerman, who founded the firm in 1983, was its first Managing Partner. According to Gordon, “Bucky brought energy, positivity, and a certain invincibility to everything he did. He was always sure we could find a solution for our clients and make a path for the firm where we could ‘do well by doing good.’” In 2007, the firm’s partners voted in Gordon and Carolyn Anderson as Managing Partners with Bucky—positions that Gordon and Carolyn have since held.

It is Carolyn’s retirement from the partnership at the end of 2023 that necessitated the election of new partners to the firm’s managing partner committee. According to Carolyn, “It’s gratifying as a departing partner to see the firm in such good hands. Gordon brings decades of experience in leading this firm and shaping its future. He will be the ultimate mentor. And to have June and Caleb emerging as part of our next generation of leaders, rising up from within the firm, is particularly rewarding. It reflects a firm that is younger, stronger, more diverse, and ready for the future.”

Both June and Caleb expressed appreciation for the foundation they will be building on. “We are deeply grateful for the dedication and leadership that the past Managing Partners have exhibited and look forward to carrying their legacy forward, preserving the unique character and culture of this firm while responding to all that’s changing in the world and the practice of law.”

June and Caleb’s new roles will be effective January 1, 2024.
